The horse-power recorded was read oh just before the tap was reversed. In the table, however, is given tin- net horse-power, deductions being made for the power required to run. \1U MOTOR TESTING MACHINE—FRONT. of K. C. Powell, foreman of simp tools, we are able to give aphotograph that shows the general arrangement and principleof the machine very clearly. It consists of a substantial framework supporting a shaftwhich carries a hollow cast iron wheel around which is fitted aprony brake. The movement of the brake arm is resisttd by along coiled spring and a scale, graduated in pounds and ounces,is provided for showing the tension on the spring. The revo-lutions are taken by a counter on the end of the shaft and thehorse-power is thus easily obtained. The volume and pressureof air are accurately measured and the economy of the motorsat different speeds are then derived. The brake wheel is arrangedfor water circulation to carry off the heat generated. The ma-chine is so arranged as to be capable of testing any sized airdrill which can lie very quickly and easily put into place. It canbe moved to different shops as desired or stowed where it will beOut of the
