Densely flowered Manna-grass is less widelydistributed, and in bloom is quite unlike othermarsh grasses. It should be recognized by theerect, bunch-like inflorescence of crowded spike-lets. Floating Manna-grass is often found in shal-low, running water, but the long panicles bearlittle resemblance to the flowering-heads ofNerved Manna-grass or Rattlesnake spikelets of Floating Manna-grass are longand narrow, and the branches, at first closelyappressed, at last spread rather stiffly from thestem. The manna crop of Germany and Polandis gathered from a species similar to this, andthe seeds are there considered desirable in soupsand
