Coastal river la Sélune and Pontaubault bridge (Manche, Normandy, France).

Bridge of Pontaubault. 31 July 1944, a detachment of the 4th Army Division in Patton settled Pontaubault: the bridge was intact. Everything depended on it, the German staff had understood: from July 30, Colonel Bacherer collected all the remains of the German army he could find in the area and returned to Bridge 31. In the evening, the American paratroopers were dropped in large numbers and again became masters of this passage, the neck for which the military intended to flood Britain. Two German attacks, one terrestrial, the other airline, tried to destroy the bridge, but without success. From 31 at night, began to file troops: in 72 hours, seven American divisions, more than 100,000 men and 1,500 vehicles, swallowed up by this unique way.
