Museum is a 1750 house where Stuart was born, an operational snuff mill, grist mill, pond, trails, a fish ladder and herb garden, art gallery and welcome center are here. The house served as private home and tavern and he and his family moved to Newport, RI when Gilbert was 6 years old. He was famous for his paintings of President Washington and other prominent figures of US history.
