Close up of Common Passion flower. (Passiflora caerulea), showing pollen. !0 petals, 5 being outer sepals and 5 petals proper. Distinctive central 'crown', (corona) and filament -like threads. Often banded in different colours. In corola is the stalk with five pollen bearing stamens, and three styles. Caerulea is the only one hardy enough to grow outside in England. A vigorous climber producing yellow or orange fruits after flowers 10 cms across. Thought to represent the crucifixion of Christ. 'Crown,' and three 'nails'. Pollen grains visible.
