Palacio Episcopal, Astorga, Leon, 1889 - 1893. Converted into museum 1960s. Architect: Antoni Gaudi
Bishop Juan Bautista Grau i Vallespinos commissioned the palace to replace a previous structure that was destoryed by fire, but died before his pet project iwas completed. After his death Gaudi was dismissed by unsumpathetic church officals and the project completed by another architect. In fact, it remained vacant for some time until the church realized that they had a treasure and converted it to its present use, as a museum housing art related to the pilgrimage.
