A late 19th century view of an 1867 re-enactment of a congregation at a "Scalan" or mass in County Donegal, Ireland. It harks back to the days of the Penal Laws when it was treasonous for a priest to celebrate Catholic rites, the laws were eventually removed in the late 18th Century.
