Use of this portion of the beach at Camp Agudleton, Marine base, south of Los Angeles is restricted to military personnel. The base shoreline has retained much of its natural beauty because of limited public access. There are 1,072 miles of mainland shoreline (excluding San Francisco Bay) in the state. Of this total 662 miles or 61 percent are privately owned; the remaining 410 miles are public property, May 1975
