SEM - CORNSTARCH BASED BABY POWDER
A scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of baby powder based on cornstarch. The cornstarch included in the formulation of the powder absorbs moisture and leaves skin dry and comfortable, preventing friction and nappy rash. The size of particles is so small that they are both easily carried in the air, like dust, and can reach the smallest areas of the lung. There have been numerous reports of babies being involved in life-threatening incidents from inhaling the powder. Many dermatologists feel that there isn’t much advantage to powders compared to ointments when it comes to preventing and treating nappy rash.
