Stairs in the Westminster Reference Library
Located a few steps south of Leicester Square, the Westminster Reference Library is a small sanctuary of tranquillity right in the heart of London. It’s a great place to while away a little time with a wonderful calm ambience and an especially good selection of books on art and music. In fact, one entire floor of the library is dedicated to music! The site on which the building stands is (like much of London) steeped in history. It was originally a chapel, built by the Huguenots in 1693 shortly after they fled religious persecution in France. It was later developed into a house, and Sir Isaac Newton lived there for most of the last seventeen years of his life. The building as it is today was constructed in 1928 for Westminster Council as a purpose-built library.
