From all Boragcworts they are known, in tneabsence of fructification, by their square stem and the numerous rescrvou-s oi on mtheir leaves. For some good remarks upon the anatomy of the stem of Labiates, seeMirbel in the Annalcs du Museum, vol. 15. p. 223. The aestivation of the corolla ofthis Order, first well pointed out by Brown, is an important consideration in determiningwhether a flower is resupinate or not. Prostanthera is remarkable for the remains ofalbumen existing in the ripe seeds of several of its species. Oxera of La Billardi^rehas been lately re-examined by M. Fenzl, who finds that its structme was, as I suspected, entirely misunderstood, and that the lobes of its ovary contain each a conical, sohtary, fleshy placenta, from the apex of which one o%ule hangs down. He refers the plant toVerbenes ; but its lobed ovary is an objection, and the pendulous positio
