The English Coast of Antarctica, imaged by Landsat 1 on 9 January 1973. The region in lower right is Palmer Land at the base of the Antarctic Peninsula. At bottom left, Spaatz Island is seen rising above the ice shelf, whilst the edge of Alexander Island is seen at top centre. The relatively flat ice shelf running diagonally across the frame covers George VI Sound, whilst at top left is the bare surface of water in the Ronne Entrance. This image was made in the Antarctic summer, so the ice cover is at a minimum. The iceberg seen toward top left of centre is about 35km long.
