Large mounds produced by yellow meadow ants (Lasius flavus) in the New Forest in the UK

Yellow meadow ants can be found in a wide range of open sunny habitats, including grassland, parks, edges of woods and clearings. Workers are rarely seen above ground. They feed on small insects and the honeydew of root-feeding aphids.
