A sword for cavalry officers,Saxon/French,ca. 1740. Double-edged blade with original hexagonal cross section,on both sides one circular and one squared brass-lined mark,on one face mirrored "L"(Louis XV)and "Maurice",the other face shows the Saxon coat of arms and "DdSCdF"(Duke of Saxony,Constable of France). Non-corresponding(?)brass hilt with remnants of gilding,similar to Saxon model 1729,with squared fist guard,thumb ring with rear guard and a large,knuckle shield decorated in relief depicting the goddess Victory above martial trophies.
