These pens are arranged on both sides of the building, with an eight-foot alleyway. The heating is done by the old-style top heat pipe system, being a series of four one-and-a-quarter inch pipes—two flows and two returns. The hover is a twenty-inch square platform, with a three-inch hole bored in the center for ventilation. Fringe is hung on the four sides of the platform. As the hover is placed four inches from both the back and the sides, the chicks will not crowd, and should they become too warm can readil}^ get out into a more cool atmosphere. This second floor brooding house will hold chicks at one time. On the outside of each brooding pen is erected a four-foot run, enclosed with wire netting.
