Horizontal wide angle view on a beautiful sunny day of the traditional gabled buildings looking towards Jan Van Eyckplein with the belltower of Poorterslodge (the Burgher's Lodge) visible in the distance - here a guided boat trip turns round as the canal comes to an abrupt end. A gable is the triangular portion of a wall between the lines of a sloping roof. Characteristic of gabled buildings in Belgium and Netherlands is the crow-stepped gable, which, as the name suggests, is where the stone work is stacked in a step pattern above the roof as a decoration.
