This park was the site of the NewOrleans Exposition held in 1884-5. This tract hasbeen donated to the city as a public park. The onlyremaining building of the Exposition is Horticultural Hallin which are still preserved the palms, plants, trees andshrubs which composed the exhibit in this grounds are unimproved except there is a fine graveldriveway. Near the river are avenues of fine old live oaktrees covered with Spanish moss, whose overhangingbranches form a perfect arch and now and then thereis an isolated tree whose leaves cover a circular spacenearly 300 ft. in diameter. On the back part of the tractare forty acres devoted to an experimental sugar planta-tion, where young men go to study the art of growingand making sugar. The buildings are equipped with thelatest and most approved machinery for refining sugarand preparing it for
