The US Navy (USN) Los Angeles class Attack Submarine USS HAMPTON (SSN 767) surfaced at the North Pole. HAMPTON and a Royal Navy submarine took part in Ice Exercise 04 (ICEX 04), a joint operational exercise beneath the polar ice cap. The Ice Exercise demonstrates the US and British Submarine Force's ability to freely navigate in all international waters, including the Arctic.
