"Pentstemon grandiflorum is repre- sented in another Excelsior strain of which the firm is quite proud—the flow- ers are large, borne on large spikes and range from white to scarlet, many finely marked; they compare well with the choicest named varieties. There is one more culture which really must be mentioned and that is a strain of cos- mea, double-flowered, comprising pink, white, crimson and orange. In form they resemble a double peony and are coming exceedingly true from seed. One, a beautiful glistening silver pink, was outstanding, so also was the ; MOTT-LY GLEANINGS. Tlic early bird gets a melon. The Schisler-Cornoli Seed Co., St. Louis, Mo., looking for the best strains in seed pro- curable, had purchased a number of iiieldiis for the seeds. Whoever hap- liencd along at the time the seeds were extracted, was invited to partake of the fruit. While one indulged in a luscious piece, the infinite varieties and forms of melons suggested themselves to one's mind. In this instance, the seeds were selected to perpetuate a choice strain of melons, while the fruit, sweet and juicy, was distributed to those individuals for- tunate enough to be around at the time.
