27/03/21 Clock maker Neil Haycock, changes the time and gives the clock at St Oswald's Church, Ashbourne, its annual service. He also spends time inspecting the bell hammers and mechanisms in the belfry. The church spite dominates the small town Derbyshire town with its 212-foot spire which was referred to by George Eliot as ‘the finest mere parish Church in the Kingdom’. It is said to have been started in 1241 by Bishop Hugh de Pateshull. The upper stage of the Tower and the Spire were not built until the1330s.
