I n1875, he was amongtheFranciscans who,compelled to leavetheir native land,sought refuge in thiscountry, where thefoundations of thepresent Province ofthe Sacred Hearthad already been laid. The exiledfriars arrived at Teutopolis, 111., onJuly 3, and on the following day, was called to preach hisfirst sermon in this country in theparish church. After spending some time in Teu-topolis, he was sent by his superi-ors to Indianapolis, Ind., and there-after he labored in Cleveland, 0.,Rhineland, Mo., Chillicothe, Mo.,. Rev. Arsenius Fahle, O. F. M. Quincy, ill., and Herman, Mo. Be-ing a gifted speaker, he was fre-quently employed in preachingmissions. Great was the joy ofhis brethren when, on the feast ofthe Sacred Heart, June 3, 1910,good Fr. Arsenius, by order of theVery Rev. Fr. Provincial, celebrat-ed the golden jubilee of his en-trance into the Franciscan himself sang the solemn HighMass on the occa-sion, and it was in-spiring to hear thevenerable jubilarianraise his beautifulvoice in praise andthanksgiving to Himwhom he had servedso faithfully. Soonafter this celebra-tion, his robusthealth began to de-cline. For some time,he still continued incharge of the littleparish at Morrison,Mo., until about 3years ago, when astroke of paralysisforced him to retire from active the summer of 1915, he residedin the friary at Washington, to his enfeebled condition,Fr.
