C15th entrance to the S nave of St Saeran's Church, Llanynys, Denbighshire, Wales, UK, with original iron-studded wooden door bearing an iron-plate sanctuary ring & C16th graffiti. Graffiti dated March 17 1598, January XXIII (23) 1599, & April V (5) 1602. By medieval Church law a fugitive was able to seek temporary sanctuary from persecution inside a church after touching a sanctuary ring, door-knocker or bell.
