Ernest Maragall, candidate for the City Council of Barcelona by ERC, is seen during the election night accompanied by his grandchildren and nephews. Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) has achieved for the first time more than one million votes which has placed it as the most voted party in Catalonia in the elections to the government of Spain. It is significant that Oriol Junqueras, leader of ERC and first on the electoral list, is serving pre-trial detention accused of sedition.
