Any beginner will be able to grow them without difficulty by following general cultural directions given in our pamphlet "Orchids for Beginners," which is mailed free on application. The following varieties we can strongly recommend : BR ASS A VOL A. glauca. A pretty species, native of Mexico. It thrives best in an intermediate temperature, and blooms in early spring. The flowers are borne singly on a short stem, and are very fragrant; sepals and petals pale green, lip pure white, with pink streaks in the throat. $1 to $ CALANTHE. Terrestrial Orchids of vigorous growth and easy cul- ture; especially recommended to beginners. They thrive in any ordinary greenhouse, and their handsome flowers are produced in midwinter when flowers of this class are most esteemed. Regnieri. $1 to $ Veitchii. $1 to $2. vestita rubro-oculata. $1 to $2. CATTLEYA. Bowringiana. Flowers 2% inches across, rich rosy purple with darker veins, on a tall 5 to 10-flowered stem. A very pretty variety and one of the easiest in cultivation. Native of Honduras. Flowers in October and Novem- ber. $ to $2. citrina. "The Tulip ; Different from other Cat- tleyas in that it usually bears solitary flowers hanging downward, instead of several on an upright spike. The large blooms are clear lemon yellow, and delightfully fragrant. They open in April and May. $1 to $ Do
