This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Sentinel 2 satellite in orbit. Computer artwork of the ESA's (European Space Agency) Sentinel 1 satellite in Earth orbit. Sentinel 2 is part of a future space mission from the ESA for the GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security programme) program that is hoped to be launched in 2013. It will consist of two satellites (Sentinel 1 and Sentinel 2) simultaneously circulating the earth and providing continuous imagery of all Earth's land surfaces. It's proposed uses will be to help monitor sea-ice zones and the Arctic environment, mapping land surfaces, and mapping in support of humanitarian aid in crisis situations.
