In 1837 he removed to New Yorkand became associated with Charles Fenno Hoff-man in editing TJie American Monthly Magazine,and was later associated with Horace Greeley aseditor of The New Yorker. In 1840 he foundedThe New World, cind in connection with Epes Sar-gent and Rufus W. Griswold conducted it for anumber of years. He was afterward for a brieftime connected with several other periodicals, butwithdrew from all publications a number of yearsbefore his death.
