(II) Jonathan Horton, son of Barna-bas Horton, was born February 23, 1648,in Southold, Long Island. He married,about 1672, Bethia Wells, daughter ofWilliam Wells, Esq., who was one of theoriginal settlers of Southold, about lived with his father and inherited thehomestead. He was captain of the firstcompany of cavalry ever organized inSuffolk county. He was ordained to theministry, June 14, 1759, at Union, Con-necticut. Until 1783 he was pastor of theCongregational church at Union. At hisrequest he was dismissed, August 6, 1783,and he died at Union, January 13, married, in 1757, in Hempstead, LongIsland, Mary Hempstead, born in 1736,daughter of Robert Hempstead.
