The playground was donated by friends and family of USDA advisor Tom “Big Daddy” Stefani, who was killed in action by an improvised explosive device in Ghazni in October 2007. During his time in Ghazni, Stefani worked with the Directorate of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and Texas Agribusiness Development Team to create plans for poultry rearing facilities, tree farms, and improved grape production. While in Ghazni, Stefani learned that the orphanage in Ghazni did not have enough toys or equipment.
