He WITNESS-ATTITUDE. 479 has an aureola round his head and a mark—perhapsthe caste-mark of a Kshatriva—on his forehead, and anumbrella over the sacred tree. This attitude is wellshown in the Sarnath sculpture (facing ^d. 477).
