Bridge over the River Wye, Bredwardine, Herefordshire


The red-brick bridge at Bredwardine is one of the key crossings of the River Wye upstream of Hereford. Built between 1762 and 1764 it was restored in 1921. It is essentially a brick construction with stone dressings and is made up of a total of six arches. It is a Grade II Listed Building. Francis Kilvert the Victorian clergyman diarist recorded how a crowd of people stood on the bridge in 1878, watching the ice break up from the frozen river.
