Here is that lovely puzzle from TheMajor, which I promised you last is really and truly a hard one. Thelittle people who send in the answerswill receive three post cards this month,for this one is harder than usual. You willbe glad to know that The Major has alsosent to Aunt Mary a number of new postcards for our little puzzlers. Now, who willbe the first to win the three. First of all, I think that Id better ex-plain the puzzle. It is called a we look in our dictionaries we find thatthe word deletion means the act of erasingor of blotting out. That is what we do withthe word which the Major has selectedbelow. For example, take the word BEADand one. Take out the letter a. This leavesword number two, or BED, From this takeout the letter d, leaving word number four,or BE. Number 4 will be the letter e, withthe b deleted or ta^ren out. Another good example is the word LADY,which we can, by deleting one letter at atime, change to-LAD, then AD, then so it is in
