The Catalan map (Catalan referring to Catalonia, Spain) was one of the most important maps of the medieval period. It is credited to Abraham Cresques, a Jewish book illuminator. This illustration shows a section of the 1375 Catalan map shows. One of the people shown on the map was Prester John; another was Mansa Musa, king of Mali. The book dates to 1921.
