Catalogue of Flower Seeds. 57. This is not only one of the most popular, but also one of the most effective of our garden favorites, producing, in profusion, flowers in which richness and variety of color are combined with the most perfect and beautiful form. The vast improvement made in the last few years by the English and German growers of this showy flower cannot be too highly spoken of. We refer especially to the different varieties of Truffaut's Paeony-flowered and the New Washington Asters. The La Superbe varieties of the first-named are rightly termed, for in every respect they are truly superb. The New Washington varieties are extremely beautiful, attaining a very large size, averaging inches in diameter, and in delicacy of tints are unequaled. Aster seed should be sown early in the Spring in a hot-bed or window box, and transplanted out-doors when the weather is warm, about 12 inches apart — the taller varieties a little farther apart, and the dwarf varieties a little nearer together. For late flowering, seed may be sown in the open ground from the ist to the loth of Alay. German quilled. For beauty and quality of flower, and variety and brilliancy^ of color, nothing finer in the way of a quilled Aster can be had than this strain.
