The people, however, are poor but contented; and if there be still a paradise onearth, it is Anacapri. What does it know of the changing years ?—what of the bustlesof the world ? But the happiest man of all Anacapri is the hermit, who passes hisexistence on the highest point of the island ! The hermitage is perched on the summitof Monte Solaro like a falcons nest, and the solitary man sits up here like a sentinel ofOlympus, surrounded by winds and clouds, and sees the earliest gleam of the sun behind.
