Selingue area, Mali, 27th April 2015; Boubacar Kente, 70, is a fisherman. He wants to restore his old boat by sealing it with natural fat extracted from the nuts of native karité (shea) trees. Boubacar says that before the dam was built the water level was far lower, there were many villages in the river bed and many garden plots. All these were lost when the dam was built and the people relocated. Bozo fishermen from Mopti and Segou now arrive every dry season because of the abundance of fish in the new dam lake, and some like him stay the year round.
