Lancaster Castle, Lancaster, Lancashire, United Kingdom, 14th September 2016. The 12-month restoration project at Lancaster Castle has been suspended after York based construction firm, William Anelay Ltd, has gone into liquidation and now ceased trading and 126 staff have been made redundant. The project was instigated to ensure that Lancaster Castle was weather tight in an effort to preserve the City's historic castle which until recent time was in use as a prison and in the past has been the scene of religious persecution with the infamous trials which lead to the execution of ten 'Pendle Witches’ some 400 years ago along with around 200 executions of murderers and call thieves.
