There hasbeen preserved a stone on which aresculptured arms, as shown in the cut,which formed part of that house. Thearms are those of Sir John Stewart,second son of Alexander, high-stewardof Scotland, from whom the family ofLennox was descended.^ The house which formerly stood to thesouth-west of the Cathedral, called Darnleys Cottage, was a compara-tively modern building.^ The Place of the Vicars was on the north side of the Cathedral
