It was not till 1879that government and the chambers transferred their headquartersto Paris. The town itself contains little to interest travellers. The greatattractions are the palace and its picture-gallery. On the way from the station of the Rive Droite to the palace,we pass on the right a Statue of General Hoche, ne a Versailles le24 Juin 1768, soklat a 16 ans, general en chef k 25, mort k 29,pacificateur de la Vendee, by Lemaire.
