The "Golliwog" is a character of children's literature inspired by a blackface minstrel doll. The character was reproduced as a children's toy and had great popularity into the 1960s. However, the word "golliwog" has since been used as a term of racial abuse which has led to the reduction of the sale of golliwogs as toys.
