Originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Hall the Atom Bomb dome as it is now known became an iconic landmark as it was one of the few structures to be left standing after the Atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6th 1945. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1996.
