It mightily shortens the original lines;Hard camping and marching we all well remember. Tenth Light Battery R. I. T HE Tenth Battery RhodeIsland Vokniteers was raisedsimultaneously with theNinth and Tenth regiments ofinfantry, for three months servicein Washington. It was mainlyrecruited from the ProvidenceMarine Corps of Artillery, underthe supervision of Col. Edwin , and other officers of thisoro-anization, who went into service as officers of the Tenth Bat-tery, taking position as they stood in the home organization, asfollows : Captain, Edwin C. Gallup; Senior First Lieutenant,Samuel A. Pearce, Jr. ; Second Senior Lieutenant, Amos , Jr.; Junior First Lieutenant, Frank A. Rhodes; JuniorSecond Lieutenant, Henry Pearce. On the 24th of May, 1862, Governor Sprague received a dis-patch from the Secretary of War, announcing that the little armyunder command of Gen. N. P.
