. American engineer and railroad journal . auger spindle are carried on a heavyvertical column which is connected to the base on which thebed for the timber is placed. It has a vertical movement onthe column to allow the position of the chisel to be varied upor down according to the desired position of the are stops to regulate the height of the travel of thechisel frame, which is moved by means of the large hand-wheel, and has a device for locking firmly at the height of themortise, and easily moved up and down for double mortising. The countershaft Is attached to the machine, driving the re-ferring friction by two belts, and a belt in the auger pindle over a pair of Idlers, one of which automatically adjusts tothe varying lengths of the belt as the chisel is raised and low-ered. The machine can be used for single and double mortisingfor gaining, countersinking, end tenoning, and boxing. Thechisel has a travel of 10 in. in depth, and the vertical rangeof work is 18 in. Mortises can 1m- made to 21 in. square. The. AUTOMATIC HOLLOW CHISEL MORTISING AND BORINGMACHINE. table will receive material ISA in. high. An auxiliary boringattachment can be added to the machine if desired. Themachine is furnished with J-in., £in., 1-in., li-in., and 1^ and augers. A shop number is attached to each ma-chine, reference to which in correspondence will identify theclass of the machine and the style of its construction. The tight and loose pulleys are 12 in. X 6 in., and shouldmake 1,000 revolutions. THE MOSHER STEAM SEPARATOR.
