In frontof the shaft and facingMarket Street is abronze figure of a min-er with pick uplifted,while in the other handhe floats to the breezean American flag con-taining the new starrepresenting Califor-nia. Standing on thetop of the shaft is anangel with openedbook wherein is re-corded the date of admission. The work was conceivedand executed by Douglass Tilden, a deaf mute, who alsodesigned and executed The Baseball Pitcher a bronzestatue in Golden Gate Park,. Nau ; .-)wHo ..r the WealDrinking Fountain.
