Christopher House, Historic Richmondtown, Staten Island, New York

The house was constructed in the Willowbrook section of Staten Island between 1720 and 1730. It was built probably by John Christopher (1704–68) around 1720, with an addition ten years on. His son Joseph Christopher (1736–1825) lived here with his wife Charity Haughwout from 1764 until his death. The house is reputed to have hosted the Committee of Safety during the Revolutionary War. Thomas Standring (d. ca. 1890) bought and enlarged the house around 1852 and dubbed it Chestnut Cottage. He lived here with his wife and five children. He made steel combs for carding wool and cotton. It is an official New York City landmark.
