FIFTH FLEET AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (May. 14, 2013) An unmanned underwater vehicle submerges during International Mine Countermeasures Exercise (IMCMEX) 13 as the Afloat Forward Staging Base (Interim) USS Ponce (AFSB(I)15) operates in the background. IMCMEX is the largest exercise of its kind in the region and will exercise a wide spectrum of defensive operations designed to protect international commerce and trade, such as mine countermeasures, maritime security operations and maritime infrastructure protection.
