Itmay be that they have had an unequal chance with those inhighest condition in the band on account of not being so wellnourished by their dams; they may have been born too lateto reach that degree of condition, finish, and weight de-manded by the packer; or, they may have been held too longat the shipping place on the range or on the road by poor trainservice without the necessary amount of feed, so that thedeterioration in condition placed what would have been mut-. Feeder lambs are gradedfancy selected, choice, good, medium, and common or selected feeder lambs.—This grade includes only arelatively small number of lambs, because they must meetnot only the requirements for choice feeder lambs, but mustalso show very good breeding, great uniformity in appear-ance and markings, and a degree of quality that justifies noadverse criticism. They show slightly more fatness than thegeneral run of feeder lambs, and are heavier, weighing from65 to 70 pounds. Such lambs are quickly finished into primelambs.
