The Clifton Suspension Bridge straddles the Avon Gorge to Clifton opposite. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and begun in 1836, the bridge was slightly modified and completed in 1864 after his death. The bridge spans 214m and is 75m above high water level over the Avon Gorge below.
