Gene therapy production unit. Technicians at work at a unit producing gene therapy treatments. In gene therapy DNA vectors, such as viruses and bacteriophages, are used to inject DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) into a host cell's nucleus and make multiple copies of their genetic material. The vectors can be genetically engineered to replace a defective gene with a therapeutic human gene, in order to counteract the faulty functioning of defective cells.
