Theappointment is of no Httle significancein view of the criticisms that have duringthe past few years been directed againstthe policy of the College. There has, however,grown up the impression that the Collegehas become too much an institution forthe training of art teachers, and the factthat a large proportion of the art mastersin schools at home and over-seas holdthe diploma of the College gives weightto this impression. In Mr. Rothensteinthe College will have a principal whoenjoys a high reputation as a painterof liberal views, and who recognises thevital need of a closer co-operation betweenart and industry than has existed hitherto,and no doubt the question of the futurepolicy of the College as it affe
