The Neckarwestheim Nuclear Power Plant is in service since 1976 with Unit one. It’s traction current generator is the world’s largest single-phase AC generator. Unit 2 is in service since 1988. The output is 840 MW for unit 1 and 1400 MW for unit 2. In the year 2011 after the Fukushima incident unit 1 has been shut down. It will not be switched on again. Unit 2 will be shut off at December, 31 2022. The chimney is 150m high. The cooling is done in a unique way to avoid an overheating of the Neckar River: Block I uses two rows of cell cooling towers. Each row has a length of  meters and a height of 18 meters. Block II uses a hybrid cooling tower with a height of  meters. It was originally going to use a wet cooling tower, but later it was decided to use dry cooling towers because it would have less effect on the environment though more expensive. This unique type of cooling tower causes the unique shape seen in the picture. (Source: wikipedia) This photo is a document for the future, as the power plant is still in operation. But the time will come, where the whole building will be teared down and sustainable energy will be everywhere.
